First of all you should decide if you wish to install your aerial equipment at home, for example find a right spot for aerial point, right? Or you will decide to get a freestanding aerial rig and rig your silks or aerial hoop or lyra at home. Here is some basic info and summary on both methods and it is up to you which one to choose from. We will start from aerial point as it seems like the easiest way to go, right?
First of all you should determine load capacity and requirements for space before you will proceed with installation.
Rigging for Circus and Aerial Performers
Keep in mind that performer or person making moves in the air on aerial equipment generates force that exceeds actual weight of the person. Standards in the industry for rigging aerial apparatuses is that any rigging point with load capacity below lbs. Also, minimum breaking strength should be no less than lbs. Another requirements is that this capacity must be free of other loads and it is unacceptable to use other load capacities for an aerial point. Example - snow load.
Another very important point is that different countries has different building codes and standards and if you are planning to rig anything in your house, you should contact specialist such as structural engineer about your house structure and its load capacity. Of course you can try to save some cash on inspector, but if you have wood frame house construction you can end up in some pretty expensive renovations if you hang your aerial rig, and that might cost you thousands of dollars.
Inspector will determine if your home structure will require reinforcement in order to hang an aerial structure. So, stay safe be extra cautious! Please keep in mind that all circus equipment must be load tested and specifically engineered to be used as an aerial apparatus.
Another way to go is to either build, construct yourself an aerial freestanding rig or way better idea is to purchase it from reputable supplier. There is plenty of information online on how to make an aerial rig yourself, but of course you should pay attention to what you are planning to do with freestanding rig and what you are planning to perform on it.
We mean freestanding is when you can simply pack your aerial rig into a bag or some box and move it whenever you want to train or perform. All aerial freestanding rigs will have three or four legs as a support and hanging aerial point usually there is three points in the rig. Other features usually can be requested additionally. It would be pretty hard to make self standing aerial rig yourself, if you have enough skills and experience in metal constructions, give it a try, but keep in mind that specifics for aerial performance, structure active loads will require extensive research and calculations.Aerial Rigging, founded inis first and foremost a professional rigging services company.

Please take a few minutes to review our website.Welcome to the CCO Rigger certification program. NCCCO task forces were made up of experts from all aspects of the rigging industry—riggers, training directors, managers, supervisors, manufacturers—who together represent many thousands of hours of rigging experience.
These volunteers gave freely of their time and expertise with the goal of improving the safety of all whose work brings them into contact with rigging equipment. A certified rigger is a person who has been trained and certified to handle and move loads. This person may be qualified in a craft or trade and carry an occupational title such as iron worker, electrician, carpenter, millwright, mechanic, laborer, mason, longshoreman, lineman, pipe fitter, boilermaker, and the like.
The persons described in the categories above will be referred to as rigger even though they carry another occupational title. A Certified Rigger Level I can perform simple, repetitive rigging tasks when the load weight, center of gravity, the rigging, and rigging configuration are provided or known by the rigger through experience or on-the-job training prior to the rigging activities. Specifically, Level I Riggers should be able to demonstrate or have knowledge of how to:. In addition to knowing and demonstrating Rigger Level I knowledge and skills, a Certified Rigger Level II can select rigging components and procedures based on rigging capacity.
A Level II Rigger can perform the following rigging tasks unsupervised:. As applicable, Level II Riggers will also have a working knowledge of hoisting equipment, winches, jacks, industrial rollers, and similar equipment.
In order to achieve full Rigger Level II certification, the candidate must pass the practical exam within 12 months of passing the Rigger Level II written exam. Candidates are permitted to schedule and take both the Level I and Level II written and practical exams at the same time; however, for Rigger Level II certification to be valid, Rigger Level I certification must also be current.
NCCCO certification examinations are designed for persons who have been trained to handle and move loads. Candidates are allowed 60 minutes to complete the test. Candidates must pass both Written and Practical Examinations to be certified for a five-year period. The Written and Practical Exams may be taken in either order.
Candidates have 12 months from the time they pass their first Written or Practical Exam for each rigger level in which to pass the corresponding Written or Practical Exam. Any tests passed within a month period count towards certification. NCCCO staff shall have the discretion to make the initial determination of whether a requested extension should be granted. Petitions for an extension of time are generally denied absent a showing of extraordinary circumstances.
Denials of such petitions may be appealed to the Appeals Committee. Certified riggers receive a laminated photo ID card at no cost when they certify for the first time and when they complete the requirements for recertification. CCO certification is valid for five years. This includes:. There is no grace period after certification has expired. Candidates whose certification has lapsed must take the full Written and Practical Examinations to be certified again. The Certified Rigger Level I Recertification Written Examination consists of 30 multiple-choice questions with a time limit of 30 minutes.
